Book Review: An Amish Miracle

Book Description

“Always in My Heart” by Mary Ellis
Hope Bowman believes God is punishing her for giving up her firstborn son when she was a teenager. She’s hidden this past from her husband, who is thankful for their daughters but longs for a son. Hope prays desperately, but the son God sends isn’t a new pregnancy. It's the fifteen-year-old boy she gave away years ago.

“Always His Providence” by Ruth Reid
Widow Rosa Hostetler has one month to pay her delinquent taxes before the county auctions her farm. She’s prepared to sell whatever is necessary to pay the lien, but she isn’t willing to request money from the community's widow fund. She’s embarrassed and refuses to admit she needs help. Rosa depends on income from selling eggs, but when that income is threatened, only a miracle can help Rosa accept the kindness of a neighbor.

“Always Beautiful” by Beth Wiseman

Becky Byler is eighteen and obese. As she continues to grow, so does her despair. Having lost all hope, she considers taking her life, even though it goes against her beliefs. Standing before rushing water, unable to swim, Becky begs God for a miracle. Two months pass and Becky has miraculously lost over a hundred pounds. But does Becky like the person she has become? Could it be this weight loss isn’t at all the miracle she thinks it is?

My Review:
I do enjoy my Amish stories and I really enjoy reading the works of these authors.  I loved this book because it was filled with three novellas.  I love reading novellas because they are easier to get through.  As a busy mom I don't always have the time to sit and read a long book and stopping and starting can sometimes get confusing.  With the novellas, I am able to read the stories quicker and not forget what was going on in the story.  I definitely enjoyed these stories.  They were quit different from the typical Amish story because they dealt with issues usually untouched such as adoption and obesity.

I received this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

About the book: Return to Sugarcreek, Book One

In the Amish town of Sugarcreek, love comes in many forms. But will it come at all for Miriam?
Miriam Zehr has worked at the Sugarcreek Inn longer than she cares to admit. The restaurant is a favorite of town residents as well as the many tourists who come to taste the famous Amish fare. Though she always tries to have a smile for every customer, deep down Miriam knows something's missing: a family of her own.
Miriam has never felt particularly beautiful, especially because she's always been a bit heavier than other girls her age. When Junior, the man she's pined for all her life, suddenly seeks her out, she's thrilled to be noticed . . . until she realizes he's only asking her to help get the attention of Mary Kathryn Hershberger, her pretty friend.
If Miriam helps Junior court Mary Kathryn, she'll get to spend a lot of time with him, but she might lose him in the process. Are these few stolen moments worth a lifetime of sacrifice? Is Miriam right to even hope for the life she dreams of?

My Review:
I really enjoy Shelley Shepard Gray's books and this one is also very enjoyable.  I love getting in on a new series of Amish novels.  I will definitely look forward to the next ones coming out.  I love that in this story the main character is not perfect.  She doesn't have the most amazing body and she lacks self esteem.  It is easy to relate to her and you want the best for her throughout the novel.  You also want to help her along and tell her how great she is.  This is a great start to a series that I'm sure will also be great.

My Review:
I really enjoy a good Amish book and I really do enjoy when an author writes a series of them.  This is a great book to start her series.  I really look forward to reading the ones to follow.  The characters are terrific and the story line is one of my favorites.  I love when couples decide to get together for one reason or another, not for love, and they end up falling in love more than anyone ever thought possible.  There are struggles along the way and I love reading about how they work through it and make something deeper out of it.  I definitely recommend picking this book up and starting the series from the beginning with me!
