About the book: An unlikely spy discovers freedom and love in the midst of the American Revolution.

As the British and Continental armies wage war in 1781, the daughter of a wealthy Virginia plantation owner feels conflict raging in her own heart. Lydia Caswell comes from a family of staunch Loyalists, but she cares only about peace. Her friend Sarah Hammond, however, longs to join the fight. Both women's families have already been divided by a costly war that sets father against son and neighbor against neighbor; a war that makes it impossible to guess who can be trusted.

One snowy night Lydia discovers a wounded man on the riverbank near Caswell Hall, and her decision to save him will change her life. Nathan introduces her to a secret network of spies, couriers, disguises, and coded messages---a network that may be the Patriots' only hope for winning the war. When British officers take over Caswell Hall and wreak havoc on neighboring plantations, Lydia will have to choose between loyalty and freedom; between her family's protection and her own heart's desires.

As both armies gather near Williamsburg for a pivotal battle, both Lydia and Sarah must decide how high a price they are willing to pay to help the men they love.

Part of the American Tapestries™ series: Each standalone novel in this line sets a heart-stirring love story against the backdrop of an epic moment in American history. This is the fifth book in the series.

My Review:
This book was not what I expected.  It was filled with such a wonderful story that really brushed up my history lessons.  I really am not sure how accurate or how much is based on actual historical events, but it seemed extremely likely that it could have been very close to real.  The story grips you and makes you want to continue reading.
I definitely recommend this book to everyone who enjoys historical books, especially historical romances.  If you have never read that genre before, this would be a great book to start with!

Book Review: Overextended

Book Description

Would you consider your life stretched to the limit?
Are you a burn-the-candle-at-both-ends kind of gal with lots of room for improvement when it comes to creating margins for rest? But you actually love it and wouldn't want it any other way? Well, so does Lisa Harper.
In her humorous and packed-with-biblical-wisdom way, Lisa shows us that it is possible for a frazzled nature to be glorifying to the Lord. Every late-night conversation with a hurting friend and each precious, adopted child needing a little extra tender loving care-exhausting, yet imperative, ways to be extensions of the gospel. In each of these vignettes illustrating Lisa's overextended life, we learn that even in the middle of our own pure motives and hectic schedules, it is only by resting in God's sovereign mercy that we are able to keep risking our hearts to serve his people and fulfill the callings he has placed on us.
Real life . . . abundant life . . . godly life is about loving Jesus and the people he allows us to rub shoulders with well-which means some days you'll be stretched emotionally and physically. You'll feel overextended. Thankfully God will expand our hearts and calendars to accommodate the calling. He is in the business of supplying us with new mercies every morning . . . new candles to burn, for more lives needing his light.

My Review:
First of all, I absolutely love the way this book is written.  Lisa Harper writes this book in a way that makes you feel like you are just having a great conversation over coffee (that's how the saying goes but my version would be "over a Dr. Pepper").  Lisa tells funny, heart-warming and sad stories throughout this book that everyone can relate to.  It really makes me feel blessed to be busy and makes me feel like having a full plate gives me wonderful opportunities to bless others and give God the glory.
This is a great book for those who are overextended, harried, heartbroken and/or hurling themselves of a cliff, which aren't we all at least one of those quite often?

Book Review: Redeeming Love

A Story of Love That Won't Let Go - No Matter What!
California’s gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep.

Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.

Then she meets Michael Hosea, a man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything. Michael obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw.

But with her unexpected softening comes overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband’s pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does…the One who will never let her go.

A powerful retelling of the story of Gomer and Hosea, Redeeming Love is a life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.

Includes a six-part reading group guide!

My Review:
My sister has been trying to get me to read this book for years.  I have had her book sitting around in my house waiting for me to read it so when the chance came for me to get my own copy I jumped on it.  I finally read the book and absolutely loved it!  It is definitely a book I will now recommend to every woman.  The book is so much more than a romance novel.  It is a story about God's completely perfect love for us even through all of our brokenness.  It is such a wonderful reminder of this and all while you get to read such an enjoyable book.

My Review:
This is the second book in Sundin's Wings of Glory series.  I did not read the first one, but I still understood the book.  I definitely recommend reading the first book as I think it would be a little more enjoyable when reading this one.  The characters in this book were wonderful and easy to connect with.  The story was great and this book was an easy, enjoyable read.
I definitely recommend it to women who love historical, romantic novels.
